You need 10 degrees.
Range of motion in the ankle joint shows up everyday. From walking the dog and picking up laundry, to competitive running or an afternoon surf sesh, we need at least 10 degrees of ankle dorsiflexion for healthy and pain free movement of our entire body.
Faster, more effective recovery. Unlike slow and ineffective stretching routines, Ankle Flex™ replicates manual therapy techniques to deliver measurable improvements.
Ankle Flex has been proven to restore functional ankle dorsiflexion, increase squat depth and improve function on stairs, ramps and flat walking in just 3 weeks of daily use.
See changes in just 3 weeks, by using Ankle Flex™ for 7 minutes per day.
Ankle Flex gives you more movement, making it easier and safer to walk on uneven sidewalks, hike steeper mountains, and power across the sports field—all with less pain and more freedom. Physical therapists and orthopedic surgeons use Ankle Flex as a home program tool to extend the benefit of in-clinic movement with motion between sessions and after discharge. The device is appropriate for supervised home programs following ankle sprains, surgical rehabilitation, and chronic dorsiflexion restriction. See clinical evidence and practitioner resources.
How Ankle Flex Works
The device is simple to use. Stand on the foot plate, secure the ankle strap and calf cuff and you are ready to start improving your ankle mobility. Imroving ankle dorsiflexion requires two simultaneous forces: a posteroanterior pull on the distal leg and stabilization of the talus. Stretching alone provides only one. Ankle Flex applies both simultaneously through a calf cuff and foot plate, replicating the mechanics of therapist-applied mobilization with movement.
Who is Ankle Flex for?
Post ankle sprain (including months or years after the initial injury), after boot or cast removal, before or after ankle surgery, plantar fasciitis associated with limited dorsiflexion, achilles tendinopathy, or athletes limited by ankle range of motion.
Before & after using Ankle Flex
A 55 year old female that catastrophically broke her left ankle 10+ years ago which resulted in loss of almost all left ankle flexion—causing unstable gait, hip and spine pain, and making it extremely difficult for her to go up and down stairs. In the video on the left, taken in the motion capture laboratory before using Ankle Flex, you can see her difficulty on stairs and slow pace.
Three weeks later, after using Ankle Flex daily, note her ease, pace and ability to trust her left leg and demonstrate normal gait on the way up and down the stairs.
“I was able to use Ankle Flex for three weeks, and the results were incredible! For the first time in ages I can run up a flight of stairs, I can squat and I can walk erect, and I don’t have a waddle. Ankle Flex has truly changed my life!”

Is a stiff ankle limiting your ability to move freely? Take the test
Tested and refined for over a decade, Ankle Flex can be used at home or at the gym, without assistance, allowing more frequent stretching without increased visits to physical therapy. Systematic reviews of movement with motion for ankle dorsiflexion consistently show gains of 3 to 8 degrees, compared to 2 to 3 degrees for static stretching.
Ankle Flex’s patented technology has been developed by Physical Therapist Esther Smith, DPT, Cert. MDT, to allow deep stretching and mobilizing of the ankle joints and surrounding muscles to help increase ankle dorsiflexion.
We also provide supportive exercises that will help you move freely from the ground up.
